Frequently Asked Questions
- What programs do you offer for students?
- We run after-school French, Chinese (Mandarin) and Creative Arts programs during the school year, plus a summer Artsy French in Nature Camp.
- What ages and grades are your programs for?
- Our after-school language and arts programs are designed for elementary students(5-12), and our summer camp is open to the same age range. If you are unsure whether a program suits your child’s age or level, email us and we will advise honestly.
- Where are your classes held?
- We run programs at Vancouver (UBC campus) and South Surrey. Our Vancouver campus is on the UBC campus and mainly serves families in UBC, the University Endowment Lands, Point Grey and West Point Grey. Our South Surrey campus serves South Surrey, White Rock, Ocean Park and Grandview Heights. We are a non-profit that rents classroom space inside or next to local elementary schools and community buildings rather than operating a storefront, so your child can access to the program easily after school.
- When do classes run?
- Our after-school classes run right after the school bell, in a room inside or close to your child's own elementary school. Exact days and times vary by campus and term, email info@mightymoose.ca for the current schedule.
- Are you a registered non-profit?
- Yes. Mighty Moose Learning Centre is the operating name of Mighty Moose Education Society, a non-profit society incorporated under the British Columbia Societies Act, incorporation no. S0082556.
- Who teaches the classes?
- Our teachers and curriculum specialists are experienced educators with backgrounds in both local and overseas K-12 schools — you can meet the team here. Program design is led by curriculum specialists rather than assembled ad hoc from worksheets.
- How do I register my child?
- Each program page — French, Chinese, Creative Arts — has a registration link for the campus you want. Registration is per campus, because schedules and space differ between Vancouver and South Surrey. Spaces are limited, so earlier registration is safer.
- Do children need any prior French or Mandarin?
- No. Our French and Chinese (Mandarin) programs are designed for beginners as well as children who already have some exposure at home or in a school immersion stream. Teaching is play-based, so children join in through games and activities rather than being tested in.
- Is there online practice between classes?
- Yes. Enrolled families get access to our online practice platform, where children reinforce vocabulary and skills from class through games and quests. It is designed as short play-based practice, not homework — you can try a game right now without signing up.
- What is your pickup policy?
- We have a written pickup policy covering authorised adults and late pickup, along with our classroom and refund policies. All three are published here so you can read them before enrolling.
- How much do your programs cost?
- Fees vary by program and term. Current fees are shown on each program's registration form. We also have subsidy options available for eligible families. Email info@mightymoose.ca for more information.
- What is your refund policy if my child cannot continue?
- Our refund policy is published in full. If your circumstances change mid-term, contact us — as a non-profit serving local families, we would rather find a workable arrangement than hold a family to a form.
- Can our school, PAC or community centre partner with Mighty Moose?
- Yes! We would like to hear from you. We already run our classes in rooms rented inside and beside local elementary schools and community buildings, so partnering is our normal way of working rather than an exception. We are open to building programs together with elementary schools, school PACs, community centres, libraries, churches and other non-profits: bringing a French, Mandarin or creative arts program into your space, co-designing something for the families you already serve, or running a one-off workshop, pro-D day or camp together. Email info@mightymoose.ca with your organisation, your location and roughly who you would want to serve, and we will come back with what a program at your site could look like.
- Can our organisation sponsor a program, donate, or support your fundraising?
- Yes, and we are glad to be contacted about it. As a non-profit we fundraise to keep fees low and to fund subsidised spaces for families who could not otherwise enrol, so sponsorships, grants, in-kind support and donations go directly into program delivery. If your business, foundation, service club or community group would like to sponsor a program, fund subsidised seats, or support one of our fundraisers, email info@mightymoose.ca and we will send you what we are currently raising for.
- Do you have volunteer opportunities for high school, college or university students?
- Yes, all year round. Students volunteer with us as classroom and camp helpers, arts and crafts assistants, and behind the scenes on administration, fundraising, design, photography and our online learning platform, at both of our campuses (Vancouver (UBC campus) and South Surrey). We can issue a volunteer certificate to support your academic or service requirements, and volunteers who stay with us for a meaningful stretch and do good work can ask the staff member they worked with for a reference letter. Email info@mightymoose.ca with your grade or year of study, which campus is closer to you, and what you would like to help with.
- How can I get in touch?
- You can send an email to us at info@mightymoose.ca. We will respond as quickly as possible, usually within 3 business days.
